Celtic players subjected to bottle attack

After scoring what proved to be the wining goal at Aberdeen Jota had a bottle thrown in his direction from an unhappy Dons fan.

The home side had equalised in the 56th minute but almost half an hour later their hopes of picking up three points were curtailed when the on-loan winger slotted home a pass from Adam Montgomery.

Jota and some team-mates did leave the field of play to celebrate behind the goal but nothing excuses the actions of a fan who walked towards the front of the Red Shed to aim a plastic bottle at the Celtic players.

The Sun reports Sky Sports co-commentator Andy Walker saying:

We talk about fan behaviour. Look at this celebration from the Celtic players and you get that object there from that young individual, what age is he? And he is throwing a plastic bottle to these players. Absolutely outrageous.

The video of the incident clearly identifies the fan with police and stewards in place at the gate as the bottle is launched. The Red Shed was created at the start of this season to generate more atmosphere around Pittodrie but it has already been criticised by Dave Cormack.

With every fan in that area known to the club and clear footage on television it shouldn’t be too difficult to identify, punish and ban the culprit.
