Just over a month from leaving Celtic Dom McKay is back in sport as interim chairman of the European Professional Club Rugby.

His swift return to sport would suggest that there was no illness or family matters involved in his abrupt decision to step down as Celtic CEO duo to personal reasons.

Announcing his departure chairman Ian Bankier immediately praised Celtic’s acting CEO Michael Nicholson for being an absolute team player.

Mark Palmer is the deputy Sports Editor of The Times Scotland, previously he was their rugby reporter.

McKay was announced as Celtic’s next CEO in January with a start date of July 1. He stepped down from his role at the Scottish Rugby Union at the start of April in order to shadow Peter Lawwell before formally taking over as Celtic CEO.

Ange Postecoglou was appointed as manager in June with the new CEO meeting the media and fans at the end of June to put on a new front as the club launched Season Ticket sales.

On Friday September 10 Celtic announced McKay’s departure with no further comment from the club since, McKay’s return to sport with the EPCR casts more questions over his brief reign at Celtic.
