The Green Brigade and other Celtic fan groups will be silent for the first 30 minutes of tomorrow’s match against Livingston in protest at the rumoured appointment of Bernard Higgins to a key security role inside the club.

For many years The Green Brigade and others protested against the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act before it was appealed at the Scottish Parliament in April 2018.

Higgins was very high profile while the act was in place with the objections of the fan groups detailed in the tweet below.

For 15 years, on and off, the Green Brigade has mainly been behind the atmosphere inside Celtic Park on matchdays.

From their base in Section 111 they have arranged chanting and various banner and Tifo displays but have often had a strained relationship with the club hierarchy resulting in suspensions with their section closed for two matches in 2017.

Ange Postecoglou and his new look side have acknowledged the contributions from the Green Brigade at recent matches but will steer well clear of any confrontation between an Ultras group and the club hierarchy.

I am sick of the Green Brigade bringing divisive politics into football but they are correct to highlight a distasteful football appointment.
