Derek Crothers has called on the SFA to stop appointing John Beaton for matches involving Sevco.

Last night the Bellshill base referee was at the centre of controversy when he awarded Steven Gerrard’s side an 80th minute penalty that allowed them to snatch a draw from Aberdeen at Ibrox.

In the lead up to the game Aberdeen fans had expressed their concerns about the appointment of Beaton for their clash with the league leaders.

Going back to a Scottish Cup tie against Albion Rovers in 2014 the man from Bellshill has a long track record of giving dubious decisions against teams visiting Ibrox.

In December 2018 Alfredo Morelos punched Scott Brown and Ryan Christie then trod on the back of Tony Ralston. Beaton and his assistant referee Douglas Ross looked the other way with the Colombian avoiding a booking and a retrospective review from the SFA Compliance Officer.

Peter Lawwell was embarrassed into making a statement but after a meeting at Hampden told Celtic shareholders that he was happy to have Beaton in charge of future matches.

Last night Aberdeen were the victims, Beaton pointed to the penalty spot when Fashion Sakala decided to take a tumble with no contact from David Bates. Tav pen scored.

Crothers has called out the inner workings of the SFA on a number of occasions, highlighting the power of the Lanarkshire Referee Association and influence of Hugh Dallas. Without taking charge of a Premiership match in 10 months Andrew Dallas was fourth official at Ibrox last night.

On Sunday Nick Walsh will be in charge as Steven Gerrard’s side visit Motherwell.

Its just plain cheating. Gerrard has bought into this and he has no shame, he would walk over his granny to get where he wants to be.

It’s sad to say our game in Scotland is totally corrupt to the core, there are far to many honest mistakes going on involving Referees that are favoring one team in particular and it’s dragging our game down to gutter level, the mans sporting integrity must be called into question immediately after that performance last night and how the fans and players of that club can celebrate is beyond me.
