Nir Bitton has claimed that returning to Scotland will be a nightmare.

Last Saturday he was on the park as Israel lost a stoppage time goal that takes Scotland to the brink of a play-off place for next year’s World Cup Finals in Qatar.

Bitton put in his usual performance, looking composed on the ball but unable to make an impact as his side folded in the face of second half pressure from Steve Clarke’s side.

With two matches left to play in their qualifying group Scotland are four points ahead of Israel with a win next month in Moldova killing off the World Cup hopes of the 29-year-old Celt.

Callum McGregor was the only Celtic player involved at Hampden with Bitton telling the Daily Record about the reaction he is expecting back at the day job:

The biggest nightmare for me is to return to Scotland right now. I have mixed feelings about the game because I think we played a relatively good match in Glasgow.

There was an amazing atmosphere and their crowd pushed them to the end. I think towards the end of the game, Scotland really pressurised us and once again we lost out to a set-piece right at the end.

It wasn’t a great outcome. Then against Moldova, we also made it hard for ourselves. They even had a man sent off and we still let them score. We know we need to do better.

Bitton made a rare start for Celtic in midfield away to Aberdeen with Ange Postecoglou having to assess his internationalists before deciding on his team to face Motherwell on Saturday.
