Rocco Vata was on the scoresheet tonight as Ireland’s u-17 side opened their European Championship campaign with a 5-0 win over Andorra.
The young Celt has a variety of international options but has decided to go with his gran’s country and is in his third season in the Irish set up.
Vata scored the fifth goal in tonight’s win at Turners Cross, Cork which is followed on Sunday with another home match against Macedonia, who opened up with a draw against Poland.

Vata’s powerful wing play has made him the stand-out player for Celtic’s Lowland League side, at the age of 16 he has more than held his own against much more experienced opponents.
With Dad Rudi well connected across a number of countries Rocco has grown up in a football environment and seems to be developing fast in the professional game, at club and also international level.
