Fortunately Callum McGregor escaped serious injury, very fortunately Ryan Porteous avoided a red card on his return from suspension.

The damage to McGregor’s left shin was obvious to all despite having the protection of a shin pad. Without that he’d be in plaster this morning wondering if he would be able to play again this season.

Porteous has a trademark style of tacking, lunging in with both feet off the ground taking all before him. Whether he gets the ball or not his opponent is at risk.

With some short Celtic passing at the edge of the Hibs box early in the second half the pressure got too much with the Hibs defender who launched himself towards McGregor. The marks on the midfielders shin explain the outcome, Don Robertson decided that it was only worth a booking.

In the early minutes of the match Porteous could easily have been sent off by a referee with a feel for the game rather than someone that can read the Laws back to front.

With Mikey Johnston turning Paul McGinn just inside the box the Hibs defender reached out to impede his opponent. As an insurance Porteous came flying in with such force that the cameras of Hibs TV could barely track it.

Robertson awarded a foul against Celtic, setting the tone for his performance with Alex Gogic finally yellow carded in the 30th minute for his third bookable attack at Tom Rogic.
