Rocco Vata served up another notice of his huge potential with the opening goal in Ireland’s 2-0 win over North Macedonia in an u-17 European Championship qualifier.
The physically powerful winger looks unstoppable playing against opponents of his own age after being a regular in the Celtic B team playing in the Lowland League.
Last night’s goal matched ability and confidence as he dribbled in from the right wing then fired in an unstoppable shot that the goalkeeper couldn’t get near.

The goal came after 31 minutes to set the Irish up for a 2-0 win in Cork that ensures that they move forward to the Elite Qualifying round ahead of Wednesday’s final group match against Poland
Ireland went into last night’s match on the back of a 5-0 win over Andorra in their opening match. The confidence from that match was on show against stronger opponents with the form and goals of Vata bound to be of interest to Scottish clubs who could be looking to get the 16-year-old on loan in January.
