Keith Jackson has suggested that Steven Gerrard is unsettled with his mission at Ibrox completed.

On Friday the former Liverpool midfielder went public about the lack of spending over the last two transfer windows, warning that more spending was needed to progress the club.

Since arriving at Ibrox in May 2018 the only seven figure fee that the club has raised was the £1.8m from Wigan for Josh Windass.

In their accounts to June 2020 the Ibrox club announced losses of £15.9m on turnover of £60m, an extra £10m of losses made up by loans from directors is expected for this year.

Losing to Malmo in the Champions League was a massive blow to the company with their Europa League campaign opening up with two defeats to pile pressure on Gerrard.

Reflecting on that situation Jackson tells Daily Record readers:

He even jabbed a finger towards his own boardroom last week by pointing out that the club has frozen all transfer activity over the last two windows. It feels as if Gerrard is starting to realise that he was brought to Glasgow for one reason only. That the be all and end all for the men in charge of the purse strings was stopping Celtic from winning a tenth successive title.

The board was prepared to throw the kitchen sink at this myopic project but as soon as it was accomplished the spending stopped. If Gerrard suspects his own ambitions are not being matched at the top of the stairs then it won’t be just his starting XI which feels a little unsettled.

Yesterday on Twitter first team coach Michael Beale snapped at a fan asking him to give the players backing.

There will come a day when they have to reflect on their actions.

Steven Gerrard has now gone to the lowest of the low in my estimations coming out backing the union bears. The same fans that walked through Argyll Street singing the famine song, in the past UEFA has taken action by closing the union bears section for racist singing. The club the SFA, SPFL and the SPL have never taken action against the union bears. Last week because one of his players was booed every time he got the ball, which happens all the time he claims its racist. He needs to look at his own supporters first before he accuses any other club
