Celtic underlined their title credentials with a comfortable 3-1 win over Hibs while the three clubs that started the night ahead of them all dropped points.

At 10pm last night the hoops had moved into second place, two points behind Steven Gerrard’s side knowing that a home win over Livingston on Saturday will send them into top place.

Ange Postecoglou brought Mike Johnston into the starting XI in place of Giorgos Giakoumakis with Hibs unable to cope with the range and variety of attacking options that the visitors carried.

Alex Gogic was reduced to hacking at Tom Rogic, from his first two fouls on the Australian Celtic scored with the former Hamilton man booked for his third foul on Rogic then replaced at half-time.

Tony Ralston opened the scoring with a 10th minute header with Cameron Carter-Vickers showing a deft touch to double the lead in the 14th minute. At Ibrox Scott Brown was heading Aberdeen two goals in front.

The Dons were pegged back but in Edinburgh Kyogo Furuhashi scored Celtic’s third and although Hibs pulled a goal back there was no rousing comeback as Postecoglou’s side made it four wins on the bounce with the prospect of more to follow.
