Ange Postecoglou is being tipped to return to Yokohama Marinos to sign Daizen Maeda when the transfer window opens in January.

The 24-year-old striker has scored 18 times in 30 J League appearances and was signed by Postecoglou while he was in charge of Yokohama Marinos.

With the new Celtic boss putting the emphasis on fast attacking football it is no surprise that Postecoglou sees signing another striker as a transfer priority.

The Times Scotland reports:

Celtic are confident of adding a second Japanese star, Daizen Maeda, in the January transfer window. With Kyogo Furuhashi having made an explosive start to life in Scotland, manager Ange Postecoglou has already stated that the J-League is a market to which he intends to return.

Well-placed sources in Japan expect a deal to be done for Maeda, a 24-year-old forward who has enjoyed a brilliant season with Yokohama F Marinos, the club Postecoglou left in June to come to Celtic himself.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been the most successful of Celtic’s summer signings but his recent injury left Postecoglou short of firepower.

Albian Ajeti scored three goals in two matches then went badly off the boil while Giorgos Giakoumakis has only made three appearances since joining from VVV Venlo.

On the August transfer deadline day Celtic lost Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths, with only Giakoumakis coming in the numbers were down which was highlighted by Kyogo’s injury.

Maeda is under contract with Yokohoma until May 2024 but the move for Kyogo went through seamlessly with Postecoglou perfectly placed to ensure that there are no hitches in pushing the move through.
