Scott Bain is reported to be in line for a new Celtic contract.

The keeper has played two matches this season, bridging the gap between Vasilis Barkas getting dropped and the arrival of Joe Hart who has played every minute of 23 matches since moving from Spurs.

Bain was signed up as back up to Doris De Vries in January 2018 when Craig Gordon was out injured, he made his debut in a win at Ibrox two months later and has appeared in 73 first team matches since then.

The Express reports:

Celtic are set to hand Scott Bain a contract extension. Ange Postecoglou, who takes his team away on Europa League action away to Bayer Leverkusen this week, has already handed a number of his squad new deals.

The keeper is next in line. Postecoglou has been impressed with Bain since he took over the Celtic job in the summer and the way he has pushed Joe Hart all the way for the No. 1 spot. Bain is out of contract in the summer of 2023 but that is set to become a more long-term agreement.

Since Hart took over Bain has been the regular back-up keeper, at the age of 30 he looks good for that role for a few years to come.

It is very rare for a club to have two top quality goalkeepers competing at the same time with that position very rarely being rotated.

Celtic also have Barkas, Conor Hazard and Tobi Oluwayemi as alternatives to Hart.

Bain turned 30 on Monday.
