Aaron Mooy is being reported as Celtic’s number one January transfer target.

The claim comes in a very upbeat profile of Ange Postecoglou in the Australian edition of the Daily Mail that speaks to former Leeds striker Michael Bridges and commentator Andy Harper who has followed the Celtic boss since his first days management.

A glowing picture is painted of Postecoglou as a bit of a managerial maverick which includes a comparison with Marcelo Bielsa who has turned Leeds around after the best part of two decades in the doldrums.

It seems that the move from the J-League to the SPFL has paid off for Postecoglou but the coming period of 12 matches in 42 days up to the Glasgow derby on January 2 will go a long way to shaping opinions on the Celtic boss and the prospects of success this season.

There isn’t much in the way of transfer information in the article but towards the end the Daily Mail reports:

Perhaps the final word should go to former Huddersfield Town and Brighton & Hove Albion star Aaron Mooy, currently earning a reported 60,000 pounds ($110,000) per week at Shanghai SIPG.

Said to be Postecoglou’s number one target for Celtic during the upcoming transfer window – no doubt at a reduced wage – Mooy summed him up perfectly for reporters covering a Socceroos game in 2016.

The article ends with a caption under a picture of Mooy with the words:

He’s intimidating but a very good coach. The way that he wants to play football, I want to play like that as well.

Mooy had a spell at St Mirren more than a decade ago before returning to Australia then playing his way into the EPL at Huddersfield and Brighton.

With a Scottish wife the prospects of moving to Celtic wouldn’t be a move into unknown territory but the Glasgow experience can go either way for those involved in football at the sharp end.
