Carl Starfelt will discover the extent of his hamstring injury later today after undergoing an X-ray.

The defender partnered Cameron Carter-Vickers throughout October but pulled up early in the second half of Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Livingston.

Nir Bitton stepped into defence on Saturday but Stephen Welsh looks a more natural fit to come into defence, starting in Thursday’s Europa League tie away to Ferencvaros.

Tom Rogic is hoping to be available for the League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone on November 20 after suffering a hamstring injury against Hibs with Starfelt hoping for a similar timescale.

Covering the defender’s injury Swedish website Fotbolskanalen reports:

“I have an X-ray tomorrow (read Monday) so we will have to look for it, but probably an easier stretch – that is, a couple of weeks”, the midfielder writes in a text message to the newspaper.

James Forrest and James McCarthy were on the bench against Livingston as Celtic’s injury issues eased but the losses of Rogic and Starfelt will have an impact.

A trip to Dundee on Sunday follows the match against Ferencvaros before the next international break which will hopefully provide some respite ahead of the congested period of fixtures through until January 2 and a fortnight off for the Winter Break.
