Celtic were involved in another Europa League thriller but after being edged out in a share of five goals Ange Postecoglou’s side find themselves in the Europa Conference after Christmas.
Over the course of three Europa League ties on the road Celtic ended up with an aggregate score of 8-9.
Josip Juranovic and Jota scored memorable goals for the away fans to celebrate but in the end goals in the 82nd and 87th minutes from Robert Andrich and Moussa Diaby gave the Germans a 3-2 victory and a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.
There was a lot to admire in Celtic’s performance but at this level anything less than complete concentration for 90 minutes proves costly.
Celtic subs haven’t worked tonight. Gutsy performance and the truth is the Celtic team have improved so much under Postecoglou. Big shame though. Defensively Celtic have come up well short in Europe. Overall squad strength not as strong as Ange would like. January a key month!

In the 70th minute Jota and James Forrest were substituted, soon afterwards Kyogo Furuhashi and Nir Bitton were replaced with Celtic dropping deeper and deeper as they struggled to retain possession.
The depth of squad isn’t there but with the transfer window opening in five weeks’ time the spotlight is on the Celtic board to deliver on Postecoglou’s wish list.
