Celtic have again been linked with Fernando Henrique of Gremio.

The hoops haven’t boughyt from a Brazilian side since Raefael Scheidt was signed during John Barnes’ time at the the club with the post Brexit situation over work permits uncertain with Brazilian players in the same category as Europeans.

According to Transfermarkt, Henrique, described as a central midfielder, has only made 16 first team appearances but today’s report from Portas Do Gremista Celtic ‘remain interested’.

Celtic, a team from Scotland and which was champion of the Champions League, remains interested in hiring Fernando Henrique. The 20-year-old has a contract until 2024, but has not yet played with Vagner Mancini. The tendency is for him to leave Grêmio at the end of the season.

The athlete came to be the starter at the time of Tiago Nunes, when Villasanti was not part of the squad and Thiago Santos was still injured. Although he is seen as a future talent, he has not been able to present his best football. With Felipão he lost space and now he doesn’t play anymore.

The information comes from journalist Matheus D’Avila, according to him, the Scots keep in touch with the purchase of the young man. However, the businessman says that there is still no offer on the table, just speculation that the deal will be closed.

With Liam Shaw still waiting for his competitive debut it seems highly speculative that Celtic are keen on a 20-year-old on the fringes of first team action for a team in Brazil.

This year Celtic have lost Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie from midfield with Shaw still to feature and James McCarthy struggling to get on top of his fitness.

Ange Postecoglou has gone on the record saying that a creative midfielder in the Tom Rogic mould is a priority in January but Henrique seems highly unlikely to fit that profile.

Celtic were first linked with Henrique last month in Radaresportes.
