Celtic overcame a horrendous refereeing display by Kevin Clancy to claim three points against Aberdeen to return to second place in the SPFL Premiership.

Jota and Callum McGregor scored either side of a Lewis Ferguson penalty with the hoops seeing off more than five minutes of stoppage time to record the win.

Cristian Ramirez set the tone in the opening minutes when he crashed into Joe Hart who required four minutes of treatment before continuing.

Jota opened the scoring in the 20th minute when he converted from a great McGregor pass but 13 minutes later Aberdeen were awarded a penalty.

Liel Abada clearly pulled out of any possible challenge but that didn’t deter David Bates from hitting the deck. Rather than book the Aberdeen defender for diving Clancy pointed to the penalty spot with Ferguson netting from 12 yards.

The second half was fairly scrappy which was best summed up by the winning goal, Jonny Hayes tried to clear the ball but only found the backside of McGregor with the ball findings its way into the net.

There were more baffling decisions from Clancy and his assistant on the main stand side but after 50 second half minutes the final whistle went with Celtic collecting all three points.

Typical. Clancy gives opposition a free kick for minimal contact and plays on when a Celt is brutally fouled. Does he seek to ‘even’ the sides during the match?
