Celtic could pick up Daizen Maeda for a fee in the region of £3m.

The Yokohama F Marinos striker has been heavily linked with being reunited with Ange Postecoglou as Celtic look for options to compliment Kyogo Furuhashi.

During the summer Celtic signed Liel Abada, Carl Starfelt and Kyogo for £3m or more which would suggest that finance shouldn’t be an issue if the speculation about Maeda is firmed up.

The Daily Record reports:

Celtic are also keen on Yokohama F Marinos’ Japan striker Daizen Maeda. He has previously played under Postecoglou in Japan and would take a substantial £3million plus bid to get that deal over the line.

Maeda is under contract with Yokohama until January 2024 which is effectively two more full season’s in the J-League.

Having watched how Postecoglou and Kyogo have quickly settled in Scotland the transfer carries less variables than Maeda’s spell in Portugal with Maritimo in 2019/20.

Postecoglou has confirmed that the J-League is a market to deal with in January but hasn’t given away any hints about specific targets.

Maeda has scored 22 goals in 35 J-League appearances this season.
