In midweek Andrew Dickson was celebrating the WATP credentials of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
By early evening on Sunday he was trying to convince himself that the new Ibrox boss can get his career off to a flyer by beating Sparta Prague in the Europa League.
The kit-kat kid of Scottish football was trying his best to hide the deep hurt of yet another cup humiliation for Captain Tavernier.
With the fans clad in their favoured orange outfits it was meant to be a Happy and Glorious day at Hampden in front of the celebrated former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder.
Martin Boyle probably wasn’t known to Gio as he sat in the comfy seats at Hampden but after 38 minutes the Australian international with the Aberdonian accent had grabbed a hat-trick.
Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Fashio Sakala and Glen Kamara had no reply to the free scoring Hibbees, on Twitter it was upto Dickson to pick up the pieces.
Next Wednesday Sky Sports will have live coverage of van Bronckhorst taking his side to Easter Road on SPFL business, one to look forward to for Dickson.
The better team won so congrats to Hibs. Much for GvB to ponder ahead of day one tomorrow. The positive is there’s no better game in which to hit the ground running than the one on Thursday – but he needs to find a way to get the right response from a squad that’s lacking ideas.

If the Scottish coach GvB plans to appoint ends up being Kevin Thomson, it’s going to be an interesting reunion between him and Connor Goldson when it happens. Kevin’s not a lad to mince his words in public so he certainly wouldn’t behind closed doors either.
