Glasgow City Council has explained the reasons why four vans collecting for Food Banks were issued with parking tickets on Sunday.

As they have done for many years the Green Brigade put out an appeal across social media for Celtic fans to donate food for various causes across the west of Scotland.

The collection vans attracted the attention of Police Scotland on Sunday but parking management is a function of the city council.

Across social media there has been a massive backlash over £60 fines handed out to charities collecting food for the neediest people in society.

Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland seem to have been embarrassed by the issue but it seems that no-one will back down and withdraw the fines.

A Council spokesperson told The Sun:

Parking restrictions are in place around Celtic Park on match day to ensure key routes are kept clear for emergency service vehicles at all times.

On Sunday Police Scotland made our parking enforcement team aware of a number of vehicles parked on London Road next to Celtic Park, which were in breach of these restrictions.

Our parking attendants spoke to the drivers of the vehicles and asked that they move on from the restricted area.

Only when the drivers refused to move on were penalty charge notices issued against the vehicles blocking a route for emergency vehicles on match day.

We received no request for a dispensation for the vehicles to be parked at this location at this time but we will liaise with the club and Police Scotland to ensure such vehicles can be parked appropriately in future.

A number of individuals and organisations have come forward offering to pay the £60 fines.

ANY way to have a go at Green Brigade. Something stinks here. Wouldn’t put it past board to have Lee Wallace’d them. bernard Higgins will have had some input. HH

I have had a look at the complaints procedure on the GCC website and you can appeal the parking fine.
As no one seems to have complained. Celtic didn’t, and according to the police they didn’t.
Appeal it and notify BBC Radio 5.
They have nothing to do with BBC Scotland and love a story like this.

Two lessons to take from this:

The volunteers could have avoided all of these problems by either wearing sevco tops or Orange regalia, in which case they would have been given a Police escort and had selfies taken with friendly smiling officers.

Don’t vote SNP, who are the enablers of and apologists for these fascists, eg Susan Aitken and John Mason.

From now on I will be voting Green.

They were goading the fans in the area looking on, the Green Brigade collecting & organising the collection & the food bank drivers of the vans hoping for the worst reaction possible then for it to be splashed all over the medial in this Country & far beyond. Be under no illusions the treatment dished out to Celtic fans, including trumped up charges, is about to get a million times worse after emphatically giving their gang leader Higgins the GTF you’re not welcome message recently. The payback will be brutal so be prepared to film them at every turn, they don’t seem to like that, can’t think why..

SNP government, SNP council anti Irish/ Catho;ic police force. how is this reaction justified.?I don’t remember any fines being handed out to the thousands of Rangers fans who terrorised Glasgow on 2 occaisons nor were the Louden Tavern fined for having a tank parked outside their premises 2 weeks ago. One law for Celtic F.C , another for Rangers fans. You don’t need to be paranoid to see the difference. As for Mr. Mason’s reaction he should be ashamed of himself. I bet a significant amount of thosedonations would be going to his constituents in Shettletson. What “a great little country we live in” Add to this the disgusting singing of a song celebrating the death of Tommy Burns sung by Rangers fans at the weekend. They clearly believe they are above the law and thebehaviour of the Scottish / Glasgow authorities confirm this. I despair of Scotland.
