Barry Ferguson has given his trade-mark reaction to Sunday’s League Cup semi-final defeat to Hibs.

Whatever the result, whatever the circumstances or scenario it seems that screaming and shouting with the threat of violence can resolve any issue. Only real rainjurz men know this managerial solution.

Going down 3-1 to Hibs rather than face Celtic in a final provided Ferguson and others with a little reality check on the remarkable squad that Steven Gerrard left behind.

The one that failed to find a way past 10 man Malmo at home in the Champions League, the divided squad with most looking on enviously at the £40,000 plus pay packets that Kemar Roofe and John Lundstrum are picking up every week.

Decked out in orange the fans were knee deep in Battle Fever but on the park their heroes were well short as Hibs easily booked their place in a Green and White final next month.

Highlighting his True Blue passion, the Daily Record reports:

Ferguson bristled at his work permit waiting game being floated as the reason on the True-Blue Go Radio Football Show, as he cut in stating: “I would have been down there waiting work permit or not.”

Asked about how it would look if he’d gone down he continued: “I think that’s showing passion after that first half performance. Even if it turned out with Hibs winning, I don’t think people would have looked at it as tainted.

“What would I do? I would have went down. That’s just my character. Maybe Giovanni is a bit different. But looking at that first half surely you needed the new manager?

“I saw David McCallum doing an interview with Rangers TV saying they had a bit of a conversation. A bit of a conversation? Heads should have been rolling after that first half.

“I keep going on about it, but for me you have got to go down and say a few home truths. This isn’t good enough and you’re at Rangers to win trophies, and this is a cup semi-final.”

On Saturday Ferguson watched his team, Alloa Athletic, lose 2-1 at home to Dumbarton, in their previous match Alloa had drawn 2-2 with Montrose. After 15 matches in League One Alloa are in sixth place with 19 points.
