Livi boss David Martidale reveals his European travels following Rangers

Dave Martindale has revealed that he used to follow the old Rangers club across Europe to Champions League matches.

In November 2006 he was jailed for drug dealing, spending four years in prison before being released, initially on parole.

Last year the SFA passed Martindale as fit and proper, much like Dave King, with the media all over the story, highlighting what a lovely guy he has turned out to be.

The former convict was assistant manager to Kenny Miller and Gary Holt before becoming Livingston manager a year ago.

Looking forward to today’s visit from the Ibrox Tribute Act, Martindale told The Sun:

Have I met Giovanni yet? No. I followed him in the Champions League. I remember going away to Parma and Bayern Munich. Michael Mols did his knee against Bayern Munich and that was 22 years ago.

I didn’t really follow Scottish football at that time, I was more inclined to watch English football, but I did enjoy watching Rangers and Celtic in the Champions League.

I remember Alessandro Del Piero of Juventus and those types of players, I enjoyed watching that type of football. There was a group of us who tried to get away and watch some Rangers games in Europe.

Livingston are third bottom of the SPFL Premiership going into today’s match, level on points with Dundee and three ahead of bottom placed Ross County. Media favourite Marvin Bartley is Martindale’s assistant.
