‘On the brink’ Daily Record excitedly report van Bronckhorst breakthrough

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is apparently on the brink of being appointed as Steven Gerrard’s successor.

A report from Sky Sports, who also claimed that on Saturday ‘positive talks’ were held, has claimed that an agreement is now close.

Just after 8pm tonight the Record informed their army of readers:

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is on the brink of being named Rangers manager, according to a report. Record Sport learned at the weekend that the Dutchman was Gers’ first choice to replace Steven Gerrard after he joined Aston Villa.

Initial talks in London went well with the former Feyenoord boss, who spent three years at Rangers as a player.

And now Sky Sports are reporting that an agreement is “close” after the club were left impressed. It’s said they are “very pleased” with how talks are progressing and an agreement in principle could be reached soon.

Sky Sports are most certainly on message to whatever is coming out of Ibrox, after the weekend excitement some frustration has set in among Ibrox fans about the failure of their club to nail down an unemployed former player to become manager.

Jermain Defoe will continue to take training with the full squad back in tomorrow to prepare for Sunday’s League Cup semi-final against Hibs.
