Play it again- SFA appoint controversial referee for Celtic’s Hampden clash

Nick Walsh will referee Celtic’s League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone next Saturday- the second time this season that he has been given this fixture.

The Bearsden based PE teacher is one of the rising stars on the refereeing circuit after taking charge of last season’s Scottish Cup Final when St Johnstone beat Hibs.

Walsh has been involved in a number of high profile controversies this season with Hibs having an appeal against a red card for Ryan Porteous at Ibrox rejected. Earlier in the match John Lundstram escaped any punishment for a bone crunching challenge on Josh Doig.

In the October SPFL clash between the two clubs Walsh incredibly booked Cameron Carter-Vickers after he was twice kicked on the ground by Chris Kane who pushed the on loan defender in the face when he got back to his feet. Kane was also booked.

Frank Connor and David Doig will be the assistant referees with David Munro the fourth official. Kevin Clancy will referee the other semi-final, played the following day at Hampden.
