‘Utterly atrocious behaviour’ ‘Yet more awful PR’ Fans react as Police Scotland strike new low with Food Bank intervention
Relations between Police Scotland and the Celtic support reached a new low today when action was taken during a food bank collection.
According to eye-witness accounts four collection vans were given £60 parking tickets for helping to feed the most needy families in the west of Scotland.
The Green Brigade have been arranging food collections for a number of years with agreed locations outside the stadium for fans to leave bags of food.
It is worth noting that the police are blaming Celtic, and Celtic are blaming the police for this incident. This all stemmed from reports from traffic wardens, who were extremely keen to ensure that fines were fished out. pic.twitter.com/QEXS3igHcp

For whatever reasons the decision was taken to take action against the collection with fines handed out.
Food banks and food collections have become essential over the last decade or so due to various restrictions in benefits and the impact of the pandemic and lockdown.
No official comment has been by Celtic or Police Scotland but today’s incidents haven’t done anyone any favours.
After the final whistle the Green Brigade stayed inside Celtic Park for more than half an hour.
Utterly atrocious behaviour. Common sense approach has always been an option for officers / wardens, which leads you to question the reasons behind this…

Yet more awful PR for Police Scotland. Their motto is “Always Vigilant”. What a shame that they were not as vigilant twice during the summer when they stood back and watched the destruction of George Square and ignored loads of racist incidents across the city.???

“We police by consent” said the Chief Constable of Police Scotland recently. As long as roads were not blocked and there was no public safety issue, then I believe a bit of common sense should have been applied here. It is not beyond the enforcers to show sense and compassion

I’ve heard reasoning before that police duty is to uphold all laws, not just the ones we think need upheld.
But this is really petty, unless causing real obstruction or danger.

It shouldn’t be up to working class people to pay the fines. The club should do it as it would only be pennies to them.

This is just unbelievable. For all time time that the vehicles would be there you’d think the police would allow them the time to fill them with food & provisions for the poorest of our community.
Shame on them for hindering the process.
