Sevco are holding talks with their preferred managerial candidate today according to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports.

On Saturday the same reporter obtained a brief video clip of Giovanni van Bronckhorst jetting away from London after holding ‘positive talks’ about the job.

With the Dutchman currently unemployed and apparently the overwhelming choice of fans to replace Steven Gerrard it looks like Saturday’s talks weren’t quite as upbeat as the Sky reporter is claiming.

The idea that contract terms weren’t discussed seems a step too far with the strong suggestion that Sheth is slowly preparing fans for rejection from van Bronckhorst.

With Gerrard complaining about a lack of transfer funds and losses of £23.5m for last season there are bound to have been discussions about terms, both for the in-coming manager and what the club needs to do in January.

There have been no solid reports of anyone else being interviewed for the job, with a temporary management team announced today it is looking very likely that Jermain Defoe will be in charge for Sunday’s League Cup semi-final against Hibs at Hampden.
