Shameless BBC Scotland have edited out Richard Gough’s No Surrender references during yesterday’s Sportsound podcast. During the show no apology was offered by Kenny MacIntyre or Tom English over the repeated use of the phrase.
Throughout his interview from his home in North America Gough was referencing the good old days under Walter Smith, any problems were sorted out by fisticuffs in the dressing room or on the training pitch. The side that Gough played in was so good it didn’t need a manager because the players sorted everything out for themselves.
All the usual stuff that Barry Ferfuson trots out to explain how the current side can get out of any bad run of results just show that you are a pure Rainjurz man.
Gough’s comments were instantly picked up on social media with The Sun running a story containing that term. Quoting the South African born defender they reported him saying:
Our club is built on an ethos of no surrender. And we don’t surrender. We’re not going to surrender games at half time when 3-1 down.
If I was an experienced player in that dressing room like Allan McGregor or Steven Davis then I’d be having a word with that young man who has maybe played at Shrewsbury and Brighton and saying ’the game is never over’.
A 52 minute podcast of the hour long show has been uploaded by the state broadcaster, no mention is made that the podcast has been edited down to exclude Gough’s dog-whistle to the base of the Ibrox support.
