On the back of his 1000th game in management and with West Ham riding high in the EPL the prospect of Davie Moyes managing Celtic has resurfaced again.

In the early eighties Moyes left Celtic for Cambridge after less than 50 top team appearances, with no helping hand he has worked his way up to join the elite that have taken charge of 1000 games.

Steve Bruce seems happy to slip into retirement but at West Ham Moyes is going from strength to strength after stops at Real Sociedad, Sunderland and a six month trial spell at West Ham while they waited for Manuel Pellegrini.

Moyes left Manchester United in April 2014 almost a broken man. Since then there have been suggestions that he could be Celtic bound, most strongly before the appointments of Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon second time around.

Reporter Mark Guidi is close to Moyes, yesterday on Go Radio (1 hour 23 minutes)  he touched on how things might have worked out differently for the former Everton boss and the club that gave him his professional debut:

He’s been brilliant. You look at his CV. I think he’s coming up to 1000 games in charge as a manager, which is a hell of a achievement.

He’s only 55/56 and he’s recovered from the setback of Man United. And that hit him hard. That hit him really, really hard and no wonder the way he was treated there by some of the players and the hierarchy. It was absolutely appalling.

He was left hanging out to dry but he’s recovered and Celtic missed a trick by not appointing him a couple of years ago when he was out of work. Celtic really missed a trick.

At Everton Moyes showed that he is prepared to make a long term commitment, the sort that Celtic could have done with over a decade where there were big troughs either side of the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

The Moyes for Celtic ship has probably sailed but likely many transfer rumours it will probably still flicker alive from time to time.
