Stephen Welsh appears to have shaken off the knock that caused him to be substituted in the 85th minute of Scotland’s 2-0 defeat to Belgium’s u-21 side at Tannadice.

The international break looked to be ending injury free for Ange Postecoglou when Welsh took a late knock four days before Saturday’s League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone at Hampden Park.

Covering last night’s match Football Scotland reports:

Glenn Middleton and Stephen Welsh went off injured as Scotland Under-21s lost 2-0 to their Belgian counterparts.

St Johnstone winger Middleton and Celtic defender Welsh are due to meet at Hampden in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

Middleton’s looked the more concerning injury, pulling up with no challenge as he stretched to bring down a high ball.

Welsh appeared to take a knock and limped off late on just before the visitors doubled their lead in the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier at Tannadice.

Adam Montgomery replaced Welsh with the Belgian’s scoring their second goal in the 87th minute.

Fortunately a video soon surfaced of Welsh walking freely as he handed his shirt to a fan that had waited behind for the warm down by Scot Gemmill’s squad.

With Carl Starfelt missing Celtic’s last two matches due to a hamstring injury Welsh has stepped in to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers in the wins over Ferencvaros and Dundee.

Celtic’s medical team will check up on the injury today but going by the post-match video it looks like the young defender has shaken off the knock.

Most of the first team squad should be back training at Lennoxtown by Thursday with the hamstring injuries to Tom Rogic and Starfelt the biggest issues facing Postecoglou.
