Steven Gerrard’s PR team published an emotional farewell to Sevco on Instagram but not many Ibrox fans were swallowing it.
Rat and snake were among the more polite terms used to describe his Ibrox exit which was confirmed at 10am on Remembrance Day with a grinning Scouser in a Villa trackie across social media.
Since Sunday Gerrard’s moves have been viewed with suspicion, his loyalty seems to be up for auction like an endorsement on Instagram.
In what turned out to be his final interview with the in-house TV station Gerrard stressed that next Sunday’s League Cup semi-final with Hibs is more important than any international that his former players will be involved in.
Rather than being pitchside at Hampden Gerrard will watch the action against Hibs on telly 300 miles away.
Fans can see through the PR pitch, the soundbites and the smarm, Gerrard is still oozing it in their direction.
