Patience is wearing thin with Ibrox fans as they wait for the announcement that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is their new manager.

On Saturday Sky Sports reported that positive talks had been held with the unemployed Dutchman but at lunchtime of Thursday, three days before a League Cup semi-final there is still no sign of an appointment. Jermain Defoe again took training today.

Late on Wednesday night the on-message media outlets were briefed on developments with the gullible informed that their candidate was ‘on the brink’ or ‘close to agreement’ despite sending a delegation from Ibrox home from Amsterdam with an empty seat on their private jet the previous day.

Reporting live from outside Ibrox this morning Gordon Duncan of Sky Sports mentioned the high quality of the other candidates on the shortlist.

If there is no sign of van Bronckhorst later today it looks like the club will have to turn to Plan B with Defoe putting the brogues and waistcoat on for Hampden on Sunday.

Just after 10am, clearly running out of ideas the Daily Record admitted:

A section of Rangers fans on social media seem adamant the first official hint at Gio’s appointment will come via their ‘Goal of the Day’ tweets.

But if that is to be the case then they will have to wait at least another day. Thursday’s offering is Kris Boyd’s strike against Inverness – not the Van Bronckhorst screamer against Celtic fans have been clamouring for over the past week.

  • Cairncross says:

I hope he gets into Sevco soon. His only title was as flukey as Gerrards was with Sevco. Have to admit though he did win a few cups so he has something like a 25% success rate as opposed to Gerrards 11% success rate.

Callum Davidson , with his 22% success rate over the same period must be miffed at being passed over for Sevco.

Lennon with his 55% success rate over the same period might even manage Sevco as he seems desperate enough at the moment.

Gerrard and his team of managerial failures will come crashing down this weekend

If he has any brains he surely will be looking at the slippy situation no money to spend, have to sell players that nobody wants probably no money in January. Surely he can’t be that stupid.
