The wait goes on- frustration grows for Ibrox fans despite late night social media prompting

Patience is wearing thin with Ibrox fans as they wait for the announcement that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is their new manager.

On Saturday Sky Sports reported that positive talks had been held with the unemployed Dutchman but at lunchtime of Thursday, three days before a League Cup semi-final there is still no sign of an appointment. Jermain Defoe again took training today.

Late on Wednesday night the on-message media outlets were briefed on developments with the gullible informed that their candidate was ‘on the brink’ or ‘close to agreement’ despite sending a delegation from Ibrox home from Amsterdam with an empty seat on their private jet the previous day.

Reporting live from outside Ibrox this morning Gordon Duncan of Sky Sports mentioned the high quality of the other candidates on the shortlist.

If there is no sign of van Bronckhorst later today it looks like the club will have to turn to Plan B with Defoe putting the brogues and waistcoat on for Hampden on Sunday.

Just after 10am, clearly running out of ideas the Daily Record admitted:

A section of Rangers fans on social media seem adamant the first official hint at Gio’s appointment will come via their ‘Goal of the Day’ tweets.

But if that is to be the case then they will have to wait at least another day. Thursday’s offering is Kris Boyd’s strike against Inverness – not the Van Bronckhorst screamer against Celtic fans have been clamouring for over the past week.
