Alex Rae has joined the pile-on of Connor Goldson on the back of Sunday’s League Cup semi-final defeat from Hibs at Hampden.

The manner of the defeat was difficult enough for the deluded to come to terms with but the after match interview from the former Shrewsbury starlet sent concern off the radar.

Honed on the far-fetched claims of Mr Struth, Jock Wallace and the late Sir Walter current generations of Ibrox fans have a laughable superiority complex in the face of reality.

The myth of the most successful club in the world and ‘the 55’ flies in the face of regular cup defeats from Aberdeen, Forfar Athletic, Hearts, Dundee United, St Mirren and St Johnstone. Twice in the last five years Hibs have beaten the Tribute Act at Hampden.

Despite that welter of evidence Craig Moore, Barry Ferguson and Richard Gough have been out spouting fire and brimstone sermons about the club that Goldson has a 1 in 10 success rate with.

Picking up on his appearance on Radio Clyde last night, the Daily Record reports Rae saying:

You’re led to believe this guy is one of the leaders in the dressing room, you heard Steven Gerrard saying this last year.

Steven Gerrard said he had been monumental, so many games on the bounce, when he comes out and says there is a lack of hunger immediately your ears prick up.

To guys of yesteryear like Richard Gough, Bomber Brown, Ian Ferguson, it’s not even words they would utter at any point.

This crop, this group, over the course of 10 cups up for grabs have won one. For the hunger, if it has to drop, you have to look at Giovanni coming in; he says he has looked at the last six games. They have conceded the first goal.

You look at Scott Arfield and he is doing the in house media, and he says the standards have dropped.

Not only are you having to deal with losing goals on a regular basis, which is the most important, because that is the foundation to go and get results.

Then you look at this guy (Goldson) talking about hunger, and are looking about saying who hasn’t got the hunger. I think he has totally misread this situation.

It looks to me like he is looking at other individuals and he has gone ‘they are not picking up, they are not doing this and that’.

My suggestion to Connor Goldson is have a look in the mirror, and take responsibility for your own performances. Because he has most certainly dropped his standards as well.

I think he’s a decent player, but this doesn’t bode well. The fans will pick up on this stuff and it looks weak to me, and I think it was totally ill-advised.

Goldson is out of contract at the end of this season, it is believed that he is currently being paid less than half of the weekly wage that Kemar Roofe and John Lundstram are picking up.

Rumours persist that the first team pool have all been on half wages to help keep the lights on. That allegedly included Mr Gerard who was informed that no money would be available for the penny tray in Jan and quickly bolted. The players have apparently found out that GVB has been recruited on Gerard type wages with no sacrifice asked. Rules for some but not for all.
Half the wages gets half the effort.
