Ange Postecoglou took a glass half full approach to Celtic’s exit from the Europa League.

Over the course of two months a 4-0 home defeat was converted into a 3-2 defeat away to a leading side in one of the major leagues.

Bridging the next step will require hard work, serious investment and a development plan but over the course of six months the Australian has made his mark on Celtic with buy-in from players and supporters.

On the road in Europe Celtic fans have witnessed their side score eight goals but at that attacking flair and edge needs to be balanced by a streetwise nature that protects leads.

In all our European games we’ve taken it to some very good opponents. We know there’s a gap between us and the best but we’ll bridge that gap if we keep taking this approach whenever we play these teams.

They knocked us off 4-0 at home and we gave them a bit of a fright here and hopefully next time that gaps even smaller.

I’m hoping the fans walk away knowing the guys in the green and white hoops gave everything for them and something to shout about.

Celtic now have a dead-rubber on December 9 at home to Real Betis, with eight other matches during the month it would be sensible to heavily rotate the squad in that match.

Postecoglou seems to have a strong idea of what is required during the January transfer window with the focus on the Celtic board to deliver.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is suspended for the match against Betis.
