Celtic’s B team showed bags of character to beat BSC (Broomhill Sports Club) 4-2 at Airdrie today after having their two goal first half lead pegged back.
The young hoops were well in control at half-time thanks to goals from Frankie Deane and Joey Dawson but were back on level terms after 71 minutes. Ben Summers then put Celtic back in front with substitute Lewis Dobbie completing the scoring in the 88th minute
With a side again depleted by international calls Celtic started the game confidently and took the lead in the 17th minute. Deane picked the ball up 35 yards out, advanced forward then fired a low shot in at the keepers’ right hand post.
The hoops doubled their lead in the 32nd minute with a well worked set piece that saw Dawson head home at the back post from a free-kick on the left.
After the break Celtic seemed to lose their way with BSC taking full advantage. In the 52nd minute Findlay Gray drive straight through the hoops defence then shot across Ryan Mullen into the net.
The visitors took confidence from that, it was no surprise when Justin Devenny equalised in the 71st minute with an 18 yard shot from a cleared corner.
It looked ominous for the young Celts but the introduction of Daniel Kelly for Deane brought some fresh energy to the midfield with Celtic back in front in the 77th minute through Summers. The ball was worked across the edge of the penalty area, Kelly fed in Summers who took a touch to the left to create a yard then squeezed a low shot in at the near post.
That was the last touch of the day for Summers but his replacement, Dobbie notched the final goal of the game in the 88th minute when Dawson found him in the penalty box with the substitute netting from close range.
