Sky Sports has claimed that ‘a number of Turkish clubs’ are interested in signing Vasilis Barkas.

The 27-year-old looked set for a fresh start under Ange Postecoglou but after losing a soft goal to Midtjylland in the first match of the season he was dropped.

Scott Bain took over for two matches with Joe Hart the new first pick on the back of 27 consecutive appearances.

With a contract running to May 2024 it is unlikely that another club will match the keepers terms at Celtic meaning that a loan deal seems more likely for the £4m signing.

Sky Sports claimed:

One player set to leave Celtic in the January transfer window is goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas. The Greece international has failed to impress since joining on a four-year deal in July 2020.

A number of Turkish clubs are believed to be interested in signing the Greece international who has not featured for Celtic since the signing of former England goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Barkas did make the bench for Celtic’s first three Europa League group stage matches but has been replaced by Tobi Oluwayemi for the last two matches.

After missing out on getting Fraser Forster back for a further loan Celtic turned to Barkas but following in the footsteps of the former England keeper proved overwhelming for Barkas even though he had played in the Champions League for AEK Athens and was a regular in the Greek international squad.
