Callum Butcher faces SFA ban for Dundee United’s Ibrox fixture

Callum Butcher has been charged by the SFA with serious foul play.

The Dundee United defender had only been on the park 10 minutes when he wiped out David Turnbull with his full body weight going through into the lower leg of the midfielder.

Fortunately Turnbull had his foot off the ground otherwise he would have been suffered serious damage.

Virtually every pundit who witnessed the challenge said that it should have been a red card but for reasons best known to Don Robertson only a yellow card was issued.

The compliance officer has now taken action, as the player has not been offered a fixed ban and will face a disciplinary panel on December 9.

On December 11 United host Livingston before travelling to Ibrox a week later, a two match suspension is the usual outcome of such cases.

Robertson will be in charge of Wednesday’s match between Livingston and Hibs, picking up another lucrative match fee.

The Celtic board has made no public comment on the physical attacks on players on the park, failure of match officials to apply the Laws of the Game and the increasingly critical commentary of players such as Kyogo Furuhashi by their media partners.
