Celtic have been credited with an interest in Deji Sotona.
The 19-year-old left Manchester United in September 2020 for OGC Nice but with no first team appearances it seems that a move back to the UK could be on the cards with Spurs and Chelsea also showing interest.
Sotana, a left winger, is a Nigerian born Irish youth internationalist clearly in need of regular first team football which will explain his decision to leave Manchester United.
Where Celtic fit in is difficult to work out with the recent history of project signings such as Luca Connell, Jonathan Afolabi and Lee O’Connor not encouraging.
All three were signed in the 2019 summer transfer window and are still waiting for their top team debuts. Loans to Ayr United, Queens Park and Tranmere Rovers suggest that they are unlikely to force their way into Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
Despite that Mike McGrath of The Telegraph has listed Celtic alongside Spurs and Chelsea as looking to sign Sotana.
Playing in the Lowland League has helped the development of Celtic’s 16 and 17 year old players but there remains a big gap below first team level that is likely to deter prospective signings unsure of where they will fit in.
During the summer Osaze Urhoghide and Liam Shaw signed from Sheffield Wednesday, so far they have both played in one Europa League tie, at home to Real Betis, with midfielder Shaw getting 10 minutes of SPFL action against St Mirren.
