Clean sweep as Nick Walsh maintains his red card record against Sevco opponents

Nick Walsh kept up his remarkable red card record by sending off Josh Ginnelly at Tynecastle yesterday.

The Hearts winger is the third player to see Walsh’s red card in matches against Sevco this season. Ryan Porteous was given a straight red at Ibrox in October, earlier in the match no action had been taken against John Lundstram for a brutal attack on Josh Doig in the opening minutes.

That performance earned Walsh another Sevco fixture, four weeks later Stephen O’Donnell earned an early bath for two yellow card offences in the eyes of the PE teacher from Boclair Academy- where Murray Park starlets complete their education.

Walsh isn’t so keen on using his red card when it comes to matches involving Celtic although Callum McGregor was sent off in the first half at Ibrox in May.

Chris Kane managed to get in two kicks at a grounded Cameron Carter-Vickers then push his hand into the face of the Celtic defender in an October SPFL match. Both players were booked.

A month later at Hampden Shaun Rooney elbowed Stephen Welsh in the jaw, again a yellow card offence according to Walsh.

Prior to that match Ian Bankier told Celtic shareholders that he had deep concern about Scottish referees. It is now 102 weeks since a Scottish referee sent off a Sevco player, this year Kemar Roofe, Leon Balogun, Lundstram and Glen Kamara have been sent off in European matches.

Walsh is one of the favourites to be in charge of the January 2 Glasgow derby.
