Grind it out- Kris Boyd’s Cup Final prediction

Kris Boyd is tipping Celtic to lift the League Cup today- if they can grind out another win.

It seems that single goal wins over Real Betis, Motherwell and Ross County aren’t particularly rated by the former Kilmarnock star.

When you are without six forward players it calls for a little improvisation and for 75 minutes against Ross County Tom Rogic watched from the bench.

Ange Postecoglou will carry out late fitness tests on a couple of players this morning before he finalises his side with team news at 1.45pm eagerly awaited.

While Hibs have toiled for form and goals resulting in Jack Ross losing his job Celtic have won their last seven domestic matches and go to Hampden as strong favourites despite the issues in the forward areas.

Looking ahead to the action at Hampden in The Sun, Boyd explains:

Credit to Ange Postecoglou’s side. Despite losing so many forwards they have found a way to win games. Yes, they are weaker without Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi and James Forrest.

But Celtic have kept winning and there is no doubt we have a title race on our hands this season. Injuries aside, Postecoglou’s team are in a good place right now and I always feel the first trophy is a chance to put down a marker. If Celtic can grind out another win, it would be a huge boost so early in his reign.

Celtic could also win in style, show the sort of football Boyd witnessed recently at Tannadice but whatever the level of entertainment 30,000 hoops fans inside Hampden will be looking to see Callum McGregor lift the trophy.
