This weekend the English media are ramping up their Stevie Gee love-in as Aston Villa travel to take on Liverpool at Anfield.

All the usual gush will be reeled out to celebrate the greatest player never to win the EPL making a return to his home city.

Some actually believe that Gerrard is being groomed to take over from Klopp but such a move would be akin to Celtic moving from Brendan Rodgers to Neil Lennon. Liverpool wouldn’t contemplate such a drop even if the new manager knows the city.

Klopp’s air quites gesture when he mentions Rangers is telling. Gerrard wasn’t in charge of the club whose fans trashed Manchester city centre in May 2008.

That club died just four years later with Steven Naismith, John Fleck, Allan McGregor, Kyle Lafferty and Steven Whittaker all leaving as free agents.

A new club entered the Scottish Football League, starting the League Cup and Scottish Cup and losing out to Queen of the South in the third round of the Challenge Cup after wins over Brechin City and Falkirk.

Gerrard left the new club last month after winning one out of nine domestic trophies.
