Tony Ralston has made it into the whoscored.com Europa League Team of the Tournament for the group stage.

The Celtic defender played in five of the six group matches that saw Celtic bow out but finish as the third top scorers among the 32 competing clubs.

Ralston scored in Celtic’s opening match away to Real Betis and turned in consistently high performances against the clubs third in Germany and Spain as well as the Hungarian league leaders.

As well as his ability to attack down the right he also demonstrated a real desire to defend with one very memorable clearance at home to Ferencvaros where he made up a couple of yards to put in a blocking challenge to prevent a clear goal opportunity.

Only two other UK based players make it into the side- West Ham duo Declan Rice and Aaron Cresswell.

Ralston’s recognition is in stark contrast to last season at Celtic where he made one appearance, at home to Livingston in January with no minutes in a disastrous Europa League campaign under Neil Lennon.

After picking up an injury during last week’s win over Hearts, Ange Postecoglou is hoping to have the 23-year-old back for the match against Motherwell on Sunday.

You wont read about that ,,
