Sunday’s League Cup success was more than just another notch on Celtic’s Roll of Honour as the post-match celebrations indicated.

The bad dream of the 2020/21 season will never be forgotten but back inside Hampden with a trophy on show fresh bonds were made between players and supporters.

For Callum McGregor and the survivors from last season it was the sweetest of feelings, a first trophy for the skipper and very much a new beginning after the long, slow painful grind that saw the trophy room emptied and first team squad decimated.

Kyogo Furuhashi is without doubt the poster bhoy for this season, an unknown six months ago who seems to have been born to play for Celtic, inheriting the expectations that come with following Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard without breaking stride.

Joe Hart, Josip Juranovic and Cameron Carter-Vickers have also played big roles while the transformation in form and mindset in Tom Rogic and Tony Ralston almost defies logic.

By Wednesday night a fresh challenge presents itself, Hampden will be pushed into the background but the momentum of a trophy win often fuels the drive for more and greater success.
