Willie Collum will referee the Glasgow derby on January 2 with Nick Walsh on stand-by as fourth official.

The Lanarkshire based official has already taken charge of two Celtic matches this season, the 6-0 home win over St Mirren then the win over Motherwell at Fir Park in October where he had to be replaced by Chris Fordyce in the first half with a sore leg.

Collum is Scotland’s most experienced referee but that is hardly an endorsement for his often erratic performances where he appears to seek out attention.

Discussing the penalty awarded against his side in the defeat at Raith Rovers at the weekend, Kilmarnock boss Tommy Wright told the Daily Record:

I think the only person that thought it was a penalty was Willie. John McGlynn didn’t think it was. The players aren’t really even appealing for. It’s not a penalty I’ve seen it back, it can’t be a penalty.

I know Willie has not even got a good view of it but he said he had and he is adamant it’s a penalty.

I hope he looks at it back and maybe phones me up on Monday and gives me an apology because that’s a poor decision. I told him he got it wrong, I said: ‘You can’t be giving penalties for that’.

Collum was in charge of the last derby match at Celtic Park in March when Odsonne Edouard was booked for simulation.

Celtic have four matches to get through before they kick off 2022 with the derby match followed by a 20 day break before facing Alloa in the Scottish Cup.

Ange Postecoglou is hoping to bring in new signings early in January but it is unlikely that international clearance will be given in time for January 2.
