‘Shouldn’t even be allowed to enter a football stadium again’ ‘absolute travesty’ ‘What’s the point anymore’ Celtic fans hit out at ropey ref Alan Muir

Even the joy, or relief, of Tony Ralston’s last gasp winner at Ross County couldn’t deflect from the anger that Celtic fans felt towards Alan Muir.

Throughout the 90 plus minutes the referee struggled to apply the laws of the game properly with some very telling stats aside from the more obvious decision making.

Celtic had 75% possession yet managed to commit 13 fouls while Ross County had just 9 free kicks awarded against them. Ange Postecoglou’s side were on the ball three times as often as their opponents yet committed more fouls.

Carl Starfelt was on the end of some of the most dubious incidents, one illustrating that Muir isn’t capable of ensuring the safety of players.

When Jordan White sent his elbow into the Swede’s face he drew blood and caused a head injury. Muir saw it, followed play and waved play on. To compound matters he booked Starfelt for complaining while he received several minutes of treatment.

Eight minutes later Starfelt was given a second yellow card leaving Celtic to play out the last 19 minutes with ten men, to some it looked like Muir couldn’t wait to send off the Celtic defender.
