Alfredo Morelos suffers more international humiliation

Alfredo Morelos has travelled halfway round the world to watch Colombia take on Peru in a World Cup qualifier from a seat in the stand.

The chunky Ibrox ace was a surprise call up to the Colombia squad- forcing him to miss three domestic matches including Wednesday’s match against Celtic.

Last summer Morelos made one brief appearance as a substitute at Copa America but had dropped out of the squad for World Cup qualifiers until this month.

Tonight The Sun reports:

ALFREDO MORELOS doesn’t even make the BENCH for Colombia in their clash against Peru this evening.

The Rangers striker won a recall to Reinaldo Rueda’s squad for the first time since the Copa America in the summer.

The Gers have lost his services at a crucial period of their season – with the derby clash gets underway at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.

This is the first step of a crucial Colombia double-header – the second part of which is against Argentina on February 1.

The 25-year-old will miss Rangers’ match against Ross County on Saturday January 29 and was unavailable for the match a few days earlier against Livingston.

Colombia are without star striker Duvan Zapata, with the Atalanta forward’s issues led reports in Colombia to suggest Morelos was in line for another opportunity to impress.

But he isn’t even named amongst the substitutes for tonight’s clash in Medellin – as Rueda goes with experienced pair Falcao and Rafael Borre up top.

Despite the usual reports that Newcastle, Porto and Galatasaray were keeping tabs on Morelos it looks like he will miss out on a dream move out of Ibrox for the ninth consecutive transfer window.
