Alleged Celtic fan site scores incredible CEO own goal!

So-called fan media site The Celtic Way can’t recognise CEO Michael Nicholson.

Launched in July, The Celtic Way is an attempt by the publishers of the Herald and Evening Times to get a slice of the lucrative fan media market.

With Newsquest now too embarrassed to release monthly circulation figures for their sinking newspapers they decided to launch The Celtic Way and Rangers Review to entice fans into subscriptions.

Ibrox cheerleader Johnny McFarlane is leading the brave new world, during his time at the Daily Record he is best remembered for explaining to their army of readers why Barrie McKay is a better player than Kieran Tierney. The former Fleetwood hairdresser is now at Hearts.

Graeme McGarry is charged with a piece aimed at praising Michael Nicholson for not being Peter Lawwell. Interestingly the fan media piece starts off with having a go at Celtic fans for not thinking that their former £3m/year CEO was utterly wonderful. Toxic is used.

Paragraph two is the real giveaway as the sharp-eyed McGarry uses a picture from the recent match away to St Mirren to highlight Lawwell’s continuing presence at Celtic.

Unfortunately McGarry claims that Lawwell was pictured alongside Nicholson- the new CEO wasn’t in the picture, the thinning ginger alongside the former CEO is Financial Director Chris McKay.

You can also read McGarry’s Celtic Way article behind the paywall at The Herald and Glasgow Times.

Five months after launch The Celtic Way has managed to attract just over 5,000 followers on Twitter, with content as sloppy as McGarry’s it could be a long wait for profitability for the latest Newsquest offering.
