Even Leigh Griffiths will now know that his time is up as a Celtic player.

The striker is out of contract at the end of this season with a loan stint at Dundee resulting in the bizarre situation where the loan club want to return him with his parent club trying to stall that move.

Griffiths has survived many predictions of his likely demise through changes of manager, the arrival of new strikers and some unwanted off the pitch headlines.

It looked like it was all over last season when Celtic didn’t take up the 12 month option on his contract but despite missing the start of pre-season training he was handed a new contract at the start of July.

Further headlines off the pitch soon followed, he was heckled during a pre-season friendly against West Ham then shipped out on loan to Dundee without having played a minute of competitive football for Celtic.

That dialogue hasn’t included me. Leigh’s situation is that he will probably be looking at opportunities elsewhere and that’s kind of where I see it as well.

With two goals from 14 appearances and an SFA Disciplinary hearing hanging over him it is unlikely that there will be much interest in Griffiths this month leaving Celtic in the position of having to find some training facilities for someone that scored for Scotland in their shoot-out win over Serbia just 15 months ago.
