There was one shadow cast over last night’s win over Hibs- an injury update on Kyogo Furuhashi.

Over the weekend there were some worrying rumours on social media about the extent of the hamstring injury that caused problems through December.

Against Real Betis on December 9 Kyogo was substituted holding his hamstring but returned to face Hibs 10 days later in the League Cup Final 10 days later, scoring twice to deliver the first trophy of the season.

The striker then missed the 0-0 draw at St Mirren, returned against St Johnstone and lasted just 15 minutes, substituted after over-stretching to a through ball from James McCarthy.

Daizen Maeda’s signing and the return to fitness of Giorgos Giakoumakis has given Ange Postecoglou fresh options but the hoops boss had worrying news on the fitness of his top scorer.

Discussing Kyogo, BBC Scotland report the Celtic boss saying:

It’s fair to say he hasn’t recovered from the injury and we’re still getting some advice on it. He’s not likely to feature in the next couple of weeks at least, hopefully midweek we’ll know more.

Being unsure of the extent of an injury 22 days on from the win at St Johnstone is a worrying situation.

Postecoglou will meet the media on Thursday or Friday to preview the Scottish Cup tie at Alloa, Kyogo won’t feature in that match but by the tone of the managers comments it could be a while before Kyogo is adding to his goal tally.

Japan international boss Hajime Moriyasu has already stated that Kyogo won’t be in his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against China on January 27 and Saudi Arabia on February 1.
