In among a media conference that lasted almost 13 minutes there were six words from Ange Postecoglou that leapt out.

This is not just about football- spoke volumes.

The Celtic manager seems to be flagging up that Callum McGregor’s injury doesn’t fall into the usual category. It isn’t a four week hamstring issue or a nine month cruciate, this injury is a bit different.

The Celtic boss was in serious mode as he reflected on another batch of injuries that has left his midfield looking especially thin.

Callum McGregor has been central to Postecoglou’s plans since he took the armband on, starting against Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifiers back in July.

The midfielder won’t be playing again any time soon with his manager avoiding any comment on the extent of the injury and how long the club captain will be out of action.

This is not just about football. He has had a significant injury, we just want to make sure that he recovers and feels good. Callum is the type of character who will be itching to get back out there but first of all we look after the person’s health, make sure that they recover well then in terms of when he gets back to training, when he gets back to playing we’ll be guided by the medical professionals.

There was no update on Kyogo Furuhashi’s hamstring injury during today’s broadcast media conference.
